7th Grade Band
The 7th Grade Band is an ensemble that develops basic musicianship through note & rhythm reading, theory basics, tone production, and proper rehearsal etiquette. Students will work primarily out of the Traditions of Excellence Book 2 method, and will perform full band pieces on at least 4 concerts throughout the year including OMEA District 4 Large Group contest. It is expected that students practice at least 100 minutes a week outside of the school day to learn concert music and assignments from the book. Students also have access to SmartMusic to use as a practice tool and to submit performance assessments. Students have the opportunity to switch to a school-owned "color" instrument such as oboe, bassoon, french horn, baritone and, tuba. Private lessons are encouraged for all students, but especially for switch-over instruments and percussionists.
